A Very Special Night

There is little that can be written that hasn’t been in the last 24 hours about that game last night. I feel an overwhelming sense of privilege having been able to witness what will no doubt go down as one of the great European nights at Anfield.
The noise, emotion and excitement of the evening bordered on the indescribable.

From the moment I saw the gloomy L4 sky turned red by the flares greeting the coaches arrival you knew it was going to be a special night. And it wasn’t a disappointment.

Two gorgeous Salah goals, a brace from Firmino and a clever Mane finish put Liverpool 5 up on the hour and seemingly on the plane to Kyiv.
What a shame about those two late goals, not from the point of view of any second leg jeopardy – lightning won’t strike twice for Roma, but because it detracted from the overall performance which was worthy of winning a two-leg tie in one game.

I suspect Roma’s defenders won’t get much sleep before Wednesday’s return now they have experienced the whirlwind that is this current Liverpool side.
